FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Fort Wayne Police say one person is in custody after an early Sunday morning confrontation on the southeast side of town.

Officers were called to the 4300 block of Joshua Lane just after 2.30am when a woman reported a domestic dispute with her boyfriend. She said he threatened to shoot and beat her before she could run from the apartment to a nearby gas station.

Police say the suspect, Rushawn King, was still in the apartment and refused to come out. The police also learned that he had a warrant for his arrest.

After hours and a warrant, police and officers from the Emergency Services Team (EST), Crisis Response Team (CRT) and Air Services Unit (ASU) were able to enter and detain King just after 7 a.m.

Police say it is an ongoing investigation and have not disclosed what new charges King may face.

The FWPD published the following:

On November 20, 2022 at around 2:36 a.m., the dispatcher received a call from an adult woman. She stated that there was a domestic dispute between her and her boyfriend. About 30 minutes ago her boyfriend threatened to shoot her. He then exited the residence and fired his weapon. The woman also said her boyfriend then came in and hit her. According to the victim, the suspect had been drinking. The woman fled to a nearby gas station, from where she called the police. The incident happened in the 4300 block apartment complex of Joshua Lane. The male suspect has been identified as Rushawn King.

The police were dispatched to the scene. While driving to the scene, it was learned that the suspect had an outstanding warrant. When police arrived at the scene, they attempted to call the suspect via his cell phone and a speaker system, but he did not answer. At approximately 3:55 a.m., it was decided to page the Emergency Services Team (EST), Crisis Response Team (CRT), and Air Services Unit (ASU).

While specialist teams arrived on the scene, officers evacuated nearby neighbors from the apartment complex for their safety. CRT attempted to contact the suspect, but was unsuccessful. A warrant was obtained to enter the house. The EST proceeded to deploy measures to place the suspect in custody. At approximately 7:11 a.m., the suspect exited the apartment through the front door and was taken into custody.

No member of the police department or male suspects were injured during this time.
