FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Families are invited to visit elementary, middle and high schools at Fort Wayne Community Schools during Tuesday tours on November 15, 22, 29 and December 6, 13 and 20.

Each school in the district will offer tours during school hours to allow families to view work in progress at each building before the January 13, 2023 deadline to submit School Choice Lottery applications. During Tuesday tours, families can visit most elementary schools from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and noon to 2 p.m.; colleges from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.; and secondary schools from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Bunche Montessori Early Years Center and Towles Middle School will offer tours from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and noon to 2 p.m. Families who cannot attend these times are encouraged to call their school(s) of interest and agree on an alternate time.

FWCS released the following:

Students are assigned to a school based on where they live, but families can also choose from other schools in the district. FWCS has seven magnet schools, which offer a variety of special programs. Bunche (Pre-K and Kindergarten) and Towles (Grades 1-5) offer Montessori instruction; Towles offers New Tech Middle School (grades six through eight); fine arts programs are offered at the Whitney Young Early Childhood Center (pre-kindergarten and kindergarten), Weisser Park Elementary School (grades one through five), and Memorial Park Middle School (grades six through eight); Croninger Elementary School, a 2022 Blue Ribbon National School, focuses on communications; and Irwin Elementary School specializes in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math). Magnet schools have no boundaries and attract students from across the district.

In addition to the traditional curriculum, each FWCS high school has a curriculum, which offers students the option of participating in a special curriculum or taking career-focused electives. Study programs include: the Lead the Way-Engineering project at Northrop; Early College-Global Studies/World Languages ​​at North Side; Lead the Way-Biomedical project at Snider; International Baccalaureate at South Side; and New Tech Academy and Early College-Business in Wayne. Families can also apply to Fort Wayne Virtual Academy, FWCS’s distance learning school.

Parents who wish to request that their child attend another school must complete and return a lottery application by January 13, 2023. Families can apply online through the myFWCS portal at www.fortwayneschools.org/myfwcs. If there are more applicants than places available at any of the schools, a lottery will be held to determine admission. The lottery will take place on Thursday, February 2, 2023.
