GoFundMe seeks to help develop local photographer’s classic rock photos

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) – A new GoFundMe seeks to help preserve the legacy and work of a local rock photographer.

Charles Daniels has spent over 50 years of his life photographing some of the world’s most popular rock artists and musicians. Daniels has had the opportunity to tour with and photograph artists like Rod Stewert, The Faces and even local rock legends Aerosmith.

“The best part about it was living it,” Daniels said. “I tried to take a perspective that no one else could really take.”

Daniels has over 2,500 rolls of undeveloped film from his time as a photographer, and GoFundMe wants to help fund the effort to process and digitize all of the photos to help create an archive. The GoFundMe said several universities have contacted the creation of archives. They also hope to create exhibitions of his work.

“I have a pretty good stash of it all,” he said. “I can’t always get my hands on it.”

The recent push to digitize the photos came after Daniels was diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndromes. While GoFundMe editors are optimistic about the treatment, they wrote that the recent diagnosis was a wake-up call to act as soon as possible. He has raised nearly $11,000 of his goal of $30,000 at press time.
