COLUMBUS, Ohio (ADAMS) – The Ohio Department of Transportation is always looking for qualified men and women to drive and maintain the state’s snowplows.

ODOT relies on these employees to ensure that more than 43,000 lane miles of state and US highways outside of municipalities, and all highways except the Ohio Turnpike, are maintained during disaster events. snow and ice.

“The men and women who drive and maintain ODOT’s fleet of nearly 1,700 snowplow trucks play a critical role in ensuring our roads remain passable for those who need them during and after a storm,” said Gov. Mike DeWine.

The Ohio Department of Transportation released the following:

Candidates wishing to drive snowplow trucks on a seasonal or full-time basis:

MUST have a valid Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and no air brake restrictions
MUST have three months training or three months experience operating basic equipment
MUST be able to pass a physical fitness test (lift 50-100 pounds)
MUST pass a criminal background check and drug screening prior to employment

ODOT also has a new road maintenance worker opportunity where ODOT will train and pay a CDL. These are full-time positions with benefits. This position leads to career development in highway maintenance.

ODOT offers a retention incentive to employees who are part of winter operations. Eligible full-time employees who hold valid Class A or Class B CDL licenses will receive $2,500 in retention funds.

Eligible employees must serve the State of Ohio during ODOT’s critical snow and ice season and be employed by the agency beginning December 1, 2022 and remain uninterrupted in service through May 1, 2023.
