President Joe Biden and his wife Jill Biden led global tributes to Queen Elizabeth II, releasing a two-page statement on the monarch’s passing.

“Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was more than a monarch,” the president’s statement began. “She defined an era.”

Closer to home and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese celebrated the Queen’s “historic reign” and her “long life of duty, family, faith and service”.

Pope Francis said he joined the mourners and paid tribute to his devotion to duty. “I gladly join all who mourn her loss in praying for the eternal rest of the late Queen and paying tribute to her life of unswerving service for the good of the nation and the Commonwealth, her example of devotion to duty, her unshakeable testimony of faith in Jesus Christ and firm hope in his promises.

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said Queen Elizabeth II was “widely admired for her grace, dignity and devotion around the world”.

He added: “She has been a reassuring presence throughout decades of sweeping change… The world will long remember her dedication and leadership. The world will long remember his dedication and leadership.

Somehow find the time to issue a statement while at war, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky shared his “sincere condolences to the Royal Family, the whole of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth”.
